Insights into the Extbase ORM-Layer – Paul Ilea

This week, Paul kicks off our new series of internal talks with an introduction to the Extbase ORM-Layer. The first steps are always the hardest – unfortunately Philipps audio track was not recorded, so you won't be able to hear all the questions he asked. But Pauls answers to them are probably more interesting anyway.

Jeffrey A. McGuire: Beyond Burnouts and Buyouts — A Third Way for Open Source CMS

Jeffrey A. McGuire: Beyond Burnouts and Buyouts — A Third Way for Open Source CMS

Jeffrey A. McGuire — Jam, to the community — takes the stage at the first-ever TYPO3 Summit to name the economic strain threatening open source's long-term viability: burnout on one side, extractive capital on the other. Declining contribution rates, private equity distorting project incentives, and regulatory pressure like the EU's Cyber Resilience Act are all converging on the same small agencies trying to build sustainable businesses around open source.

Jam lays out TYPO3's answer — a "third way" that separates a democratic, community-owned association from a commercial arm bound by strict bylaws not to compete with its own agencies. He walks through the model's dual-track approach: ELTS preserving the past with seven years of extended support, and the new TYPO3 Suite subscription funding what's next, with every feature eventually folding back into the GPL-licensed core.

He closes with a direct challenge to the industry: if Red Hat proved open source could be commercialized stably and predictably, why not TYPO3 as the enterprise CMS built the same way?

Content is the Asset. Visual is the Skin.

In this talk, Benni Mack, TYPO3 Core Team Lead and CTO at b13, breaks down the “CMS lie” — the gap between what vendors promise and what enterprise organizations actually need — and introduces his three-layer Enterprise Content Management philosophy: the asset, the content design, and the visual presentation.

Drawing on real-world examples from Deutsche Post, T-Mobile, French rail infrastructure, and Villeroy & Boch’s 277-year-old brand, he shows what it looks like to build software that thinks in decades, not quarters.

Benni closes with a reminder that in a web increasingly filled with machine-generated content, human-created, fact-checked, and governed content is the asset competitors can’t replicate.

From Platforms to Ecosystems: Building for Sustainability

From Platforms to Ecosystems: Building for Sustainability

Karim Marucchi, CEO of Crowd Favorite, opens the first-ever TYPO3 North American Summit with a hard look at where CMS has been — and where it's headed.

In this keynote, Karim breaks down the last fifteen years of enterprise CMS, the risks of moving too fast with AI, and why composable architecture means the platform sitting at the center of your stack matters more than ever.

Drawing on Crowd Favorite's history as one of the original WordPress enterprise agencies, he makes the case for governance, stability, and long-term thinking in a market increasingly shaped by private equity and acquisition cycles.

Karim closes with a five-point checklist for evaluating any content platform's long-term viability — TYPO3 included.
